Art Advisory

& collection management.

What is it?

Art collections management involves organizing, preserving, and documenting art collections, ensuring that artworks are cared for and accessible while maximizing their value and significance. The tasks involved in art advising and managing an art collection basically consist of research, acquisition, inventory management, condition reporting, curation, and sometimes, loans and conservation. However, depending on the client, an art advisor or collections manager's work can look very different- a historical organization would be looking for art with historical or cultural value to enrich their research archives, emphasizing the academic or provenance-related research and focusing on preservation and conservation; in contrast, a private collector is likely searching for artwork that speaks to their aesthetic preferences and matches their investment goals.

What motivates me…

Art is more than painting pictures or producing something visually appealing; it has the ability to tell stories (of the individual and the collective), experiment, teach, protest, make peace, spark joy, and create space. A well-curated art collection can be an emotional experience, a teaching tool, a preservation of history, and a smart financial move. I would like to work in art advising and/or collection management because I believe art is a critical part of life that everyone should experience thoughtfully and deliberately.
